Giants: Citizen Kabuto Goes Gold!
(Digital Mayhem and Planet Moon Studios Prepare for the Epic Launch of the most Eagerly Awaited Action/Adventure game of this year!)
IRVINE, California, November 29, 2000 - Digital Mayhem, a division of Interplay Entertainment Corp. (NASDAQ: IPLY), and Planet Moon Studios announced today that their long awaited Action/Adventure game, Giants: Citizen Kabuto™ has gone gold. Available for Windows 95/98/00/ME based computers, Giants: Citizen Kabuto is an action game that pits three of the most unique races of characters up against one another in battles that span across numerous islands. Each race has it’s own strengths and weaknesses to be learned and mastered adding a multitude of replay value to this humorous game. Scheduled to ship December 7th, 2000, Giants: Citizen Kabuto lets players battle using third person shooter, action/adventure, and strategy techniques to gain control over a serene paradise of an environment that brings the words “Eye Candy” to mind.
In single player mode, players begin as the Meccs, a merry band of space cowboys on their way for a little R&R on the planet Majorca. Everything is going great until their ship is damaged causing a need to stop for repairs on a remote planet. There, the player is separated from the rest of the team only to meet up with a strange little race of creatures called Smarties. The story begins to unfold as to why the Smarties live in fear for their lives while the player carries out various missions to recover the rest of the team and equipment.
After completing the Mecc missions, gamers move on to playing as Delphi, daughter to the Queen of the evil Sea Reapers. Delphi must seek out Yan the Samurai Smartie, and hone her skills as a Sea Reaper to battle her mother and help out the Smarties. Throughout these missions, Delphi acquires new skills and spells to be used later on in the game.
Once the Sea Reaper missions are complete, it is finally time to play as Kabuto, who is a giant ferocious beast created by the Sea Reapers to defend them. Too brutal to exist with anyone else, Kabuto will destroy anything in his path. Players using Kabuto build up his power by creating offspring to use as his personal army, performing wrestling moves like the butt-slam or the elbow drop, and useing his razor sharp horns to impale opponents or store food. Standing well over 10 times the height of any other character, Kabuto ravages the islands pounding, munching, and crunching anything in his path.
The multiplayer option lets gamers choose between playing as the Meccs, Sea Reapers, or the big guy himself…Kabuto. The Meccs use futuristic weapons and technology to do battle, while the Sea Reapers conjure up mystical spells and fight with devastating magical powers. Kabuto crushes his victims with intense wrestling maneuvers while thrashing the islands with his bare hands. The action continues as gamers manipulate the landscape to create obstacles and destroy the enemy. Not only will the action side carry over from single player game, but there will also be a little bit of real time strategy thrown in as you build your base and defend it from opposing player attacks. To make things even more chaotic, each race will be fighting for the same two resources on the island….Smarties and Vimps. Smarties are the island locals who will build you fortresses and provide you with weapons, while Vimps are the livestock of the islands in which all characters use as an energy source. This three-way battle between the forces of technology, magic, and brute savagery has a Mature ESRB rating and will provide hours upon hours of fun for anyone playing Giants: Citizen Kabuto.
