Shattered Suns Beta Available July 6
Clear Crown Studios today announced that the beta release of Shattered Suns, a science fiction real-time strategy (RTS) game for PCs, will be available to sci-fi fans and computer gamers everywhere starting on Friday, July 6 of this year. The beta release will give fans an opportunity to try a pre-release version of the game for free before its official retail release on October 5, 2007.
Set in space, Shattered Suns features large-scale, three-dimensional battles among fleets of space ships and stations in a struggle to control territory around orbiting planets and moons. Players design their own ships and stations, loading them up with the right mix of weapons, shields, engines, cargo space and crewmembers to suit the player's unique strategy for victory. Ships mine crystals and ore from planets and moons, delivering their cargo back to the nearest space station to trade them for credits, which can be used to build more ships. Construction crews aboard ships build new space stations in orbit around planets and moons. As the player takes over new worlds, battles erupt when the natural orbits of the planets suddenly bring enemy stations within striking range. Players command fleets in fast-paced battles in all three dimensions, allowing ships to strike from above and below as well as from all sides.
Anyone who signs up for the beta release before July 6 will be able to download the release over the Internet. All those who are interested can sign up for the beta release and the Shattered Suns newsletter through the official Shattered Suns web site at http://www.shatteredsuns.com.
The beta testing period will last for one month and is designed to test that Shattered Suns will run successfully on a wide variety of computer configurations. Another goal for the beta test period is to collect feedback and ideas from sci-fi fans and computer gamers. Although few ideas from the beta test will result in new game features by the final retail release on October 5, all ideas will be carefully considered and many will make it into future releases of the planned Shattered Suns series.
