Dreamcatcher unveils Fuel character biographies

A touch wacky but these toons know how to put the pedal to the metal

There was the exclusive developer diaries and a bevy of screenshots, but one thing about Dreamcatcher’s upcoming title Fuel is that while the vehicles may be the more obvious stars, there is a cast of characters ready to pilot the machines.

Characters? You bet. Once again Dreamcatcher has favored GameZone with some story background for Fuel, but before we bring you the bios, it might be helpful to bring everyone who may not know up to speed (pun intended) on what Fuel is.

Fuel is not your typical turn around the track. Slated to release at the start of May, players will have the opportunity to go off road, use an ATV or personal watercraft and hustle their way to the finish line at top speeds. There are 10 characters to choose from, courses from around the globe and the choice of more than 35 vehicles.

Ok, since we know a little about the making of Fuel, it is time to introduce the characters:

Angus: Bar-room brawl or off-road rally, this Scot plays to win.

• Nationality: Scottish

• Age: 29

• Occupation: Sheep Farmer

• Likes: Haggis, bagpipe music, strong ale.

• Dislikes: Waiting, losing

• Hobbies: Tractor racing, caber tossin', boxing, playing his bagpipes

• Favorite Quote: One good turn deserves another.

• History: Angus is rugged man’s man, who likes nothing more than a good brew after a fast race. In his youth, Angus enjoyed racing tractors in the fields of his beloved Scotland, but he soon found he wanted more speed. He soon found his way to the circuit and never looked back. Love him or hate him, and it’s always one or the other, Angus is a challenge, both on and off the track.

Angel: Rave your engines, this chick came to party.

• Nationality: British

• Age: 22

• Occupation: Nuclear Physics student at Liverpool University

• Likes: Raves, fast cars, cherry cola

• Dislikes: County music, cowards, soap operas.

• Hobbies: When she's not going atomic, she likes to hit the local party scene with her friends.

• Favorite Quote: Winning isn’t everything, the Party afterwards counts too.

• History: Angel grew up in London under the strict thumb of two parents who, while well-meaning, adhered to an austere religious life. Rebelling against the rather mundane and unexciting spiritual life her parents tried to thrust on her, Angel took to the streets and underground party scene. She loved this fast track, but she wanted something faster. Soon she discovered that racing ATVs, jet skis, and other vehicles provided her with the thrill and freedom she was looking for. Brilliant, but daring, Angel is a tough competitor who can outwit as well as out drive her opponents.

Annie: You know she can ride... you should see her drive.

• Nationality: American

• Age: 24

• Occupation: Cattle Rancher

• Likes: Two stepping, T-bone steaks, warm summer nights

• Dislikes: Big cities, big egos, big hair

• Hobbies: Horse riding, rodeos, and barn dancing

• Favorite Quote: Giddy-up Cowboy!

• History: Annie loves horses, and it wasn’t long before she found herself drawn to the horsepower of car engines. And while Annie still loves the feel of a saddle and the sound of galloping hooves, she long ago adapted to modern technology, using ATVs and other off-road vehicles to round up her cattle. Annie is a fun-loving cowgirl who enjoys wheeling steer and steering wheels.

Desmahn: Cool breeze, warm music, and an extraordinary finish.

• Nationality: Jamaican

• Age: 25

• Occupation: Fishing tour guide

• Likes: Ocean, Reggae Music, Strawberry ice cream

• Dislikes: Rude people, slow pokes

• Hobbies: Bobsledding

• Favorite Quote: No worries, mon!

• History: Desmahn grew up on the Jamaican isles. He loves the sound of steel drums and the easy feel of the waves when out on the ocean. Desmahn is driven by a desire to do the extraordinary, hence his love for Bobsledding in a country that has few opportunities to do so. This is also what attracts him to off-road racing. Desmahn may be the easiest going competitor on the circuit, but his determination to be extraordinary makes him a challenge for the rest of the racers.

Duncan: Hunting Crocs and Abusing Shocks.

• Age: 32

• Occupation: Crocodile Hunter

• Likes: Having a cold one with the mates down at the bar

• Dislikes: Flying, comedians, broccoli

• Hobbies: Checkers, Sheilas, Collecting Snake Bites

• Favorite Quote: You’re going down under!

• History: Duncan is a daredevil. Be it Crocodile Hunting, playing with snakes, or racing ATV’s, Duncan loves excitement. Always trying to push the envelope, he places high value on incredible stunts and tricks. Duncan is also not averse to giving the other racers a little nudge for excitement either.

Trixy Murphy: Racing her way to a 70’s beat, she’s the number one queen on the disco street.

• Nationality: American

• Age: 28

• Occupation: Private Detective

• Likes: Disco, crime novels, pizza

• Dislikes: Lowlife, leeching, no good bums like Tyron (her ex)

• Hobbies: Going to baseball games in her free time.

• Favorite Quote: Here’s a clue for ya, stay outta my way.

• History: Trixy is one tough motha’. Raised on the wrong side of the tracks, she grew up on wanting to put things right. But being a private detective doesn’t quite pay all the bills, so she tries to make some extra cash on the side by racing on the circuit. Introverted, Trixy keeps mostly to herself, except when on the dance floor or behind the wheel. At these times, Trixy is as boisterous as they come.
   

Ginger: A Spice Girl she’s not.

• Age: 29

• Occupation: Professional Wrestler

• Likes: Order, heavy metal, cats

• Dislikes: Disobedience, chaos,

• Hobbies: Motorcycle Riding, Jigsaw Puzzles

• Favorite Quote: I want to put you in the headlock.

• History: Her formative years were spent in what used to be East Germany. Needless to say, this dreary life is probably responsible for much of Ginger’s personality. As a professional wrestler, Ginger plays the part of the stoic and rigid warrior woman whose only passion is to destroy her opponent. Lacking a sense of humor, Ginger finds her fun in the ring and on the tracks where she tends to enjoy hitting things. Ginger claims that the reason she has a tendency to hit anything near her when on the racing track is because, “it removes chaos”.

Lynn: Canadian Girls Kick Ass.

• Nationality: Canadian

• Age: 23

• Occupation: Snowboard Instructor

• Likes: Deep powder, Clean Air and Beating the Boys

• Dislikes: Bullies, Spinach, Being ignored

• Hobbies: Carving up the Rockies in the winter, offroading in the summer.

• Favorite Quote: Anything they can do, I can do better

• History: Lynn was the youngest of seven. Her other siblings were all boys. Growing up, she found she was often left out because she was “a girl”. Needless to say, this treatment provided much of the motivation that she still uses today. Her greatest thrill is to compete against men and beat them at their own game. This she does with unexpected regularity. A superb athlete, Lynn enjoys competing in almost nearly any sport or competition, but snowboarding and offroading are her true passions.

Mugambi: Winning for Mugambi is just history repeating itself.

• Nationality: Kenyan

• Age: 32

• Occupation: History Professor

• Likes: Reading, Adventure, Cleanliness

• Dislikes: Stubbornness, Lack of Civility, Poor Grammar

• Hobbies: rally racing, scuba diving

• Favorite Quote: That’s one for the record books.

• History: As a young boy, Mugambi watched archeologists at a site near his home. From this experience, Mugambi found his passion, a deep love of history. He would often seclude himself in his bedroom in order to read and read and read. His parents, however, wanted Mugambi to be better-rounded, and they pushed him into more active interests. Mugambi soon discovered he also liked adventure, and when his two favorite pursuits cross paths, well, this is the ultimate. He soon found that the circuit fed his need for adventure and the travel gave him the opportunity to delve into the histories of man. But don’t let Mugambi’s upper crust education and genteel spirit make you think that he is a pushover on the race course. His studies have taught him that the victor often writes history, and he intends to be in the books.

Tanaka: Victory brings great honor.

• Age: 27

• Occupation: Unknown

• Likes: Karaoke, Action Movies, Martinis

• Dislikes: Quiet, Being Alone, Insults

• Hobbies: Gambling, Martial Arts, Motorcycles

• Favorite Quote: I’ll see you when I lap you.

• History: Very little is known about Tanaka or about his childhood. We do know he loves to be the center of attention. He is loud and vivacious and constantly quoting lines from action movies. He is somewhat of a braggart, displaying an overabundance of confidence. He is cool and collected under pressure, often coming out on top when others would buckle. He dresses smartly, gambles openly, and drinks freely. Tanaka loves to lap other racers on the field. On the occasions that he does this, he will often drive long stretches alongside those vehicles he has caught up to.
