Razer Lachesis Review
When playing a PC game, especially one where targeting is fundamental to the combat elements, players are in need of a mouse that is hyper-sensitive in terms of both response times and control of location clicks.
Enter the Razer Lachesis, a mouse that uses third-generation laser technology to achieve a maximum resolution of 4,000 dots per inch. Err, what does that mean? It means that this mouse will track quickly and accurately and is one of the most (if not the most) sensitive mice on the market.
Razer has outdone itself with the Lachesis, from the sleek body design with the glowing Razer logo, to the button (nine in all) placements. The cord is seven feet long, connects via USB and the mouse comes complete with the ability to create and load different mouse profiles into the device.
If you are looking for some of the specs on the mouse, here they are:
-
4000dpi Razer Precision 3G Laser sensor
-
32KB Razer Synapse onboard memory
-
Nine independently programmable Hyperesponse buttons
-
1000Hz Ultrapolling / 1ms response time
-
On-The-Fly Sensitivity adjustment
-
Variable true dpi setting adjustments in increments of 125dpi
-
Always-On mode
-
Ultra-large non-slip buttons
-
16-bit ultra-wide data path
-
60-100 inches per second
-
Ambidextrous design
-
Scroll wheel with 24 individual click positions
-
Zero-acoustic Ultraslick Teflon feet
-
Gold-plated USB connector
Probably the first thing that one would notice about the Lachesis is that it does not resemble other Razer mice. It appears a bit bigger with a more symmetrical appearance. The upper side is Teflon-coated for a smooth finish that is easy to grip. Whereas a mouse like Razer’s Diamondback had a flatter area where the palm rests, the Lachesis is raised and actually feels a great deal more comfortable. It is also a touch wider than the Diamondback and with a larger hand (note the use of the word ‘larger;’ this is not to say that it will fit into a hand the size of a bear’s paw but it did feel good in a medium-sized hand as well as the smaller hand of an 11-year-old, who was asked to test the grip and responsiveness, and who almost tried to walk off with it), that makes the grip even easier.
The underside of the mouse features the Teflon feet, which is a sleek and smooth surface that glides effortlessly over a variety of surfaces. From a mouse pad to the flat of a desk, the mouse really was in top form consistently.
So, into a game to test it out. In a beta of Exteel, the upcoming NCsoft massively multiplayer online PvP title, the action dictated boosting the settings of the mouse and it performed amazingly. The game is arena combat, with quite a number of players inside a confined space. This meant panning and tracking were vital, and that meant a mouse capable of reading quickly and responding quickly was vital. The Lachesis was in top form; the only failing was on the part of the operator. Moving into a game like EverQuest II also produced results that were excellent.
Perhaps the biggest compliment that can be paid to the mouse is that rather than having to pick up the mouse and readjust it on the surface (and both a flat wooden desktop surface and a Razer mouse pad were implemented) to get a lock, the mouse controls were totally forgotten and the game had a smoother feel to it. Ok, that might not sound all that technical but the short of it is this – with the accuracy and responsiveness of the mouse, whether at higher or lower resolution settings, the actual mouse was almost forgotten and the game became the focus.
The mouse comes bundled with software that allows players to manage the button controls and adjust the sensitivity, and then saving the profile.
The Lachesis is the top of the line for Razer and this is a mouse that is an absolute joy to use. Those considering the purchase of a mouse should definitely give this a look.

Review Scoring Details for Razer Lachesis |
Pros:
A great feel, friction-free movement and fast responsiveness are hallmarks of
this mouse.
Cons:
None.
Overall: 9.4
The cord has the occasional tendency to crimp up and jump simply because it is
plastic and has bends worked into it from shipping. But that is of no
consequence really (and thus was not mentioned in the cons). This is a fast and
accurate mouse that works for a vast number of games, rendering an experience
that actually allows a gamer to forget about the device in the palm of the hand
and think about the game itself. The Lachesis is Razer’s latest mouse and by far
its best effort. This is an excellent product.
