Mozaki Blocks Deluxe Review
Mozaki Blocks Deluxe is a puzzle game designed by the creator of Tetris. The goal is to place blocks of the same color from the center of the grid to the edge with the matching color. When a path is created, the matching blocks in that path will disappear, and play will continue. As the game advances, higher levels are opened. Each level has bonus blocks that will erase and add wild colors. There are two modes of play, Timed and Marathon.
Each time a square is made with the blocks, points are awarded to the square. The bigger the square, the more points are scored. Squares can be enlarged by adding more blocks. This puzzle game requires some strategic thought as to block placement, as each section of blocks is a different shape, just as in Tetris. Once there are no more moves, the game is over.
This review is of the new retail version, which appears to be exactly like the free online version at MSN Games. Yep, players can either play for free online, or they can buy the game in the box for $20. Hmmmmm. After I played the retail version, I went online to MSN and played it. The games appeared the same, but maybe I’m missing something.
I enjoy puzzle games and had a fun time playing Mozaki Blocks, which I hadn’t played previously. As puzzle games go, this one is right up there with the best. It features a good mix of strategy and luck, and players can play against the clock or not, according to temperament. However, the only reason I can see to pay for a game that is offered for free online play is if the purchaser doesn’t have fast Internet access, or travels a lot with a laptop. If either of these two reasons hold true, then this is a worthy game, albeit a trifle steep at $20.
