Copperhead Precision Gaming Mouse Review
When I was asked to review a mouse I was thinking “how in the world do you review a mouse?” I mean if it points, clicks, and has a decent reaction time to my moments, what more do you really need? I use the Microsoft Wireless Keyboard and Mouse setup for my home computer and I have always been content with it, but once I got my hangs on the Razer Copperhead Mouse, I understood what all of the talk was about. This is one mouse that deserves to be reviewed because of its slew of options and innovations.
The installation of the mouse is simple enough. Just plug the mouse into any unoccupied USB port and Windows will automatically install the basic drivers for it. After that is complete just put in the official Razer Copperhead drivers disk and install that to get all of the different options for this mouse. The mouse has seven programmable buttons that can be set to almost anything with the profile manager that is installed. Also you will be able to set many of the mouse’s different options such as the sensitivity and many other things that are stated below.
The very first thing that I liked about this mouse happened the minute I plugged it into my computer. This mouse has a very nice blue glow that is constantly on, as well as the logo that is constantly pulsing on top of the mouse. This gives the mouse a very surreal look in the dark because the rest of the mouse is a polished black color. In other words this mouse stands out while you are playing games in the dark, but not too much where it will become distracting. If blue is not your favorite color, then you can order the red or green version of the mouse as well.
When you first touch the mouse you will notice that it has two oversize buttons up front, which make clicking very easy for a variety of tasks. The scroll wheel is also clickable, has a nice feel to it, and also glows blue. Also there are two buttons on the left and right side of the mouse that you can customize their use. The placement of the buttons are really nice and easy to get to. Overall the mouse itself is very study and lightweight, which makes it very nice for long gaming sessions.
One of the biggest features this mouse offers is that it is the first mouse to offer a 2000dpi laser performance. Most PC mice are usually set around 400-800, with top gaming mice around 1600dpi, but Razer wanted to push the line with the Copperhead and it is the gamers that will truly be grateful. What all this means in laymen’s terms is that with 2000dpi laser mouse, you will get the smoothest gaming performance you have ever had.
Two other features included in this mouse is onboard memory and its response time. For most USB gaming mice the response time is 125 MHz, but this bad boy offers 125, 500, and even 1000 MHz response time for the fastest response time for a mouse I have seen. Not only that but this mouse has 32KB of onboard memory which means that once you set your profile, you can disconnect this mouse and use it on any PC with those same settings, without having to install the drivers on the other PCs. I tested this feature on my two different PCs and my laptop and sure enough on each system the mouse retained its settings.
You might be saying to yourself does 2000dpi set at 1000 MHz really make that big of a difference? I was skeptical as you are before I tired this mouse out. After playing with this mouse for an hour or so I went over to another PC and I saw an immediate difference in the reaction times in everything while messing with the normal mouse that I had been so accustom to using previously. Once you have played with the Copperhead Mouse it is hard to go back to anything but that.
All of this sounds good in theory and practical Windows applications, but you may be wondering how this mouse works while playing games. Well put your fears to rest because this mouse performs flawlessly while playing a variety of different games. The first game that you have to test is a First Person Shooter so I plugged in Half Life 2 and even though it took a few minutes to get adjusted to the new degree of more precise movement this mouse offers, you will be performing headshots in no time. I also tried out Age of Empires III and Black and White 2 which use the mouse extensively and I came up with the same results.
You can find the Razer Copperhead Mouse for approximately $79.99
Pros:
The mouse is very
sturdy. It is the first mouse that has a 2000 dpi support, 32kb of internal
memory, and my model has a nice blue glow (there is also a red and green model).
The best thing about this mouse is the clean and responsive reaction time while
playing any game.
Cons:
The price for this mouse will turn a lot of people off, especially
since wireless optical mouse and keyboard are available for a similar price. The
price for the Razer Copperhead Mouse is $79.99
Verdict: 9.0
Even though I am a big fan of wireless keyboard and mouse, I really
liked the Razer Copperhead mouse. The amount of options that it has and the
smooth reaction time when you are playing any game is worth the admission price.
