Steel GamingGlove Review

The constant rubbing of the point of bone on the wrist on the surface of a desktop can be a real irritant. After a while, it can look ugly and become a callous.

Yes, there are mouse pads that have cushions designed to support the wrist area, and help with carpal tunnel, but if you are playing a game that involves a lot of wrist movement, then the pad can be hindrance.

For the active gamers, who use sweeping mouse movements, the design of the padded mouse pads can prove a hindrance. So, what is the alternative?

The folks at Soft Trading ApS have come up with an idea that allows for mobility and flexibility in using the mouse while protecting the hand that wields it. The Steel Gaming Glove is and isn’t what it says. First, it is not steel, but it is a gaming glove. The glove has three finger holes, one for the thumb, one for the little finger and one for the middle three fingers. Though geared in design for the right hand, in a pinch the glove can be worn on the left. A Velcro closure locks in the glove below the wrist. The upper is airy material that will allow the hand to breathe and it will also keep the palm dry.

The glove was initially uncomfortable. The finger holds are reinforced and the extra thickness there was a distraction. But after wearing the glove for a week, it loosened up, or perhaps I just became comfortable wearing it.

And the glove does reduce the friction between the hand/wrist and the mousepad or desktop. The Velcro closure holds up well, and the glove has been through a washing cycle with no ill effects.

This is actually a simple little product. While it could use a touch more cushioning at the intersection of the wrist and hand, the material does have a comfortable feel and does a decent job of cutting down friction. After wearing the glove for several weeks, the main points of friction produces smooth, shiny areas on the glove. That means skin saved.

Pros:

Helps absorb sweat from the palm, and smooth the grasp on the mouse, as well as ease the friction between desk and/or mousepad and the hand.

Cons:

Initially this product takes getting used to wearing.

Verdict: 8.5

This may not be a product for everyone, but if you have an over-active mouse, caused by action games, and find yourself unable to keep a mouse on a pad, then this glove is a nice way to reduce the friction between the hand and wrist and whatever the mouse is working against. It is durable, and the one size fits most hands. About the only suggestion would be to put an extra bit of cushioning at the area when the wrist bone intersects with the hand.
