Joint Operation Typhoon Rising is a FPS that is geared strictly for online play. Supporting games up to 150 players with map sizes up to 50 square km. You can choose your type of soldier from Rifleman, Engineer, Gunner, Medic or Sniper from one of seven different countries -- UK, France, Germany, Russia, Australia, Indonesia, and the U.S. Each class has different skills and weapons to choose from. There are 39 different weapons in all. Some of the best games can be enjoyed with a balance of each type of soldier. You are not going to be on a winning team with all the players choosing one class of soldier. There are 67 skins to choose from but limited voices. The latest patch includes more than the two Rebel-side women's voice which originally shipped with the game.

Players can also drive, gun and fly a boatload of vehicles - 29 in all ranging from jeeps, armored personnel carriers, helicopters, boats, and the list goes on. Though some of these vehicles do have some mounted weapons that a player can use, they are not really designed to drive in and wreak havoc with. They are better used for carrying troops to objective points while providing light cover fire. Sure you can cause a lot of pain to the enemy with some attack helicopters, but you can just as easily be shot down with a shoulder-fired stinger missile or RPG.

This title is strictly for online play. The only stand-alone games you have the option of playing are the 13 training missions. These can be quite difficult to get through, but that’s Ok. It gives the player a good sense of how easy it is to be killed in the online games. Being killed rather quickly is bittersweet. Most bullet kills result in a one-shot-one-kill form of play. This is great when you are on the shooting end and your foe dies quickly. There is nothing more frustrating then putting a whole clip into a guy, yet he still manages to get close enough to you to slit your throat in one swipe. We have seen this in previous Delta Force titles. On the other hand, after taking a couple minutes to get to your spot and get situated, you can be easily killed. Then you spend another couple of minutes doing it all over again. This can get frustrating. If we could just get a happy in-between that would be stellar.

The maps can be quite big ranging up to 50 square km. The objectives and key points are pretty straightforward so you won't be running around aimlessly. You can however, take a long way around to set up a good ambush point, which is a good way to go especially if you are a sniper. During game play the day changes to night, which really adds realism to the game. You can also use the sun's glare to your advantage. Nothing like picking a guy off from 400 meters and he can't tell where the shot came from because the sun is in his eyes. This makes for a good escape when flying when another chopper is hot on your tail, head for the sun and blind the dude.

There are currently four types of multiplayer games. They are Advance and secure, Team Deathmatch, Team King of the Hill, and Co-Op. All pretty solid games and a blast to play. I was disappointed to see that there is not a capture-the-flag game. Sure its an oldie, but in my book a goodie. Maybe in some later patch releases, Novalogic will answer my prayers. Also Punk Buster is a welcomed added feature that will hinder those hacks that have to cheat to do well. Games with PB enabled will be fair and on a level playing field with cheaters held at bay. VERY NICE!

Any military FPS fan will absolutely love this game. The graphics and sound are top notch, and the multiplayer experience is second to none. For a MSRP of 40 bucks and no subscription fee, any fan of the genre will consider this a must have and well worth the money. I know I do!

Pretty fluid, lots of keys to remember, but once you get it the keys mastered it’s a pretty easy. The games are fun, and once people play as team rather then a free-for-all on team maps, the realism should be top notch.

Graphics: 8.5
Beautifully done. For big maps that hold a lot of players I was a bit shocked at all the detail. A fast connection is needed to really enjoy gameplay without lag with all the graphic settings set on high

Sound: 9
Wonderfully done. All the sound effects are very realistic and really immerse you in the game. When mortar shells start falling around you with blasts so close that your ears are ringing had me darn near under my desk looking for cover!

Difficulty: Hard
Even the training missions are tough with great AI. It is a real test to get past the training missions because the real deal online is very tough. No matter how good you think you are, there is always someone better.

Concept: 8
Nice to see FINALLY a developer has done it right. Take an element of gameplay (Massive Multiplayer Online First-Person Shooter) which is a favorite among FPS fans, develop a game solely on online play, have lots of maps and support up to 150 players in a game, Then here is the best part, NO MONTHLY FEE REQUIRED! Adding PUNK BUSTER to hinder cheating is the icing on the cake. WELL DONE NOVALOGIC !

Multiplayer: 9
This is what the game was developed for and is darn near perfect. I would have liked to see some capture-the-flag type games, and player stats and experience that would accumulate over time into a ranking system. Medals would have been nice to like we saw in DF3. Hopefully these will come later in future updates.

Overall: 8.8
What can I say. I have been waiting for a game like this, which is free to play online after paying for the game. Sure we have all played FPS multiplayer games, but not with like this. Kudos to Novalogic.
