Heroes of Might & Magic IV: The Gathering Storm Expansion Pack Review
Each of the five new campaigns focuses on the hero's individual quest for his or her artifacts. A sixth campaign brings the five heroes together to battle Hexis and thwart his plans for conquest.
The game features 6 New massive campaigns with more than 20 new maps, 4 original fantastic creatures, 16 brand new artifacts, new skillful heroes, all new music track, and includes the new Heroes of Might and Magic and Magic 4 multiplayer update.
Most of the ratings follow the same scores from HOMM4 http://www.gamezone.com/gzreviews/r18676.htm because it is all pretty much the same. The new music track was a nice change but still feel that sometimes the music did not quite accompany what was going on. Another note, if you are one of those AI complainers that have to nit pick about every little detail, you may have a few gripes here. Nothing has really changed from what I have noticed, but I didn't squawk too much about its predecessor either. The gameplay was still quite good.
Multiplayer has been released in this version and like many other titles can be played through Gamespy. I have said it before and I'll say it again, really would have liked to see a more direct experience when it comes to online gaming. No offense to Gamespy, but the less hoops you have to jump through the better. Not many multiplayer maps available at the time of review, and not many players. I'm sure this will probably change as more fans pick up the expansion and the community grows. Better some form of multiplayer than none at all.
The short of it is if you love the series this is a must have. At a MSRP of around 30 bucks, it’s a fair deal.

Reviewer's Scoring Details |
Gameplay: 8.5
Same as HOMM4. If you haven’t
played in a while you might take a bit to refresh your memory, other than that
nothing really has changed.
Graphics: 7
Much better than
the earlier titles but nothing earth shattering. But for turn-based fans,
this is not actually a requirement to enjoy the game.
Sound: 8
Sound effects
were ok. The music wasn't bad, in fact was quite good, but in some instances
didn't quite go with the gameplay. The new sound track does offer a nice
change from the original
Difficulty: Medium-Hard
This title is quite challenging
and is very tactical. Multiplayer provides even bigger challenges
Concept: 8.5
An expansion for
a great game that has a huge following. The new changes that were added made
the game very enjoyable.
Multiplayer: 9
Pretty simple to set up and provides all you need to get MP up and running if you haven’t downloaded the update for the original.
Overall: 8
This will keep
Heroes fans happy until the next expansion, or next in the series is released.
