Hooters: Road Trip Review
Hooters Road Trip is a rally style racing game that gives you a very nice bonus, win a race and get to party with a Hooters girl! When I fired this baby up, I was expecting some stellar graphics and Gameplay to tie in with the great video clips of the Hooters girls, however, that was not to be. The game is an arcade style, single player racer. Now that's not all bad, as far as arcade style games go, this one is pretty good, it won't compete with the top end racing games, but I don't think it was supposed to. It was designed to be fun to play and the girls add a nice touch.
The game puts you into some pretty serious machines in which you will compete in six different Road Rally style races, all of which are set in the southern United States, which is of course the birthplace of the famous HOOTERS restaurants. The races are set on public roadways so you must be careful of the oncoming traffic, spin out and crashes will be commonplace until you get a feel for the cars and the game, Practice Makes Perfect. With each race you win you will get another car to add to your stable, there are 16 cars total, but you will also get a nice video clip of a Hooters girl cheering you on to victory!
Hooters Road Trip is supposed to be a high adrenaline Road Rally Racing game, and while it does have some good aspects, it also has some negative ones.
Before I start I must advise you not to attempt playing with keyboard controls (I don't recommend keyboard controls for any driving game), even with a good racing controller the initial settings are twitchy and hard to control. A bit of tweaking of the deadzone and sensitivity settings do make it much more manageable.
The game will start you out with three different cars, and give you a chance to run them on a test track, then practice on the rally course, and, finally to compete in the rally. A first place finish earns you another car and a short video clip of an actual Hooters girl congratulating you on your win. The Hooters girls are also spread through out the game in different control screens, and yes they are quite lovely. Each rally is progressively harder and longer, however you do have the option of setting the difficulty and the traffic flow in the options page. As with any racing game, practice makes perfect.
The game is very straight forward as far as the racing goes, both sides of the track are closed off by made or natural obstacles so that you may not leave the race and go exploring, you have to stay on the track.
What this game lacks in graphics and expanded gameplay, it makes up for in fun and lovely ladies!
This game is fairly easy to set up, there are some options, but they are limited and simple to use. The game is single player only with no multiplayer support. This game is also easy on your PC's resources and should play on almost any machine (see system specs for more details).
Gameplay: 5
Hooters Road Trip is supposed to be a high adrenaline Road Rally Racing game,
and while it does have some good aspects, it also has some negative ones.
If you are looking for a high tech, realistic racer, then continue your search cause this ain't it. But if you are looking for a good ol' arcade racer that is fun to play and full of some really nice eye candy, then this one might be worth your while.
Graphics: 4
This games graphics are very much in the arcade range, it does have some
decent smoke effects, but the shadows and reflections are lacking, as are the
details. Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with arcade style graphics,
however I would have thought that they would have used better game graphics in a
game filled with such lovely women (the ladies graphics are just fine)!
The cars do show damage if you beat them up or hit oncoming traffic or obstacles, but the damage level is low and so far as I can tell, does not effect the cars performance.
Sound: 6
A really hot rock soundtrack blasts you through the game (simulating the
cars radio) and you have the option of which music to listen to. The video clips
also have great sound quality. The Gameplay sounds are pretty good and the tire
screeches and traffic sounds fit in well.
Difficulty: Medium
I set this one as medium, not because the game is hard to use, but because
the cars are so twitchy with the initial settings, it will take you a bit to
tweak them into drivable machines, even then they are prone to spin outs. The
rest of the game is fairly easy to navigate.
Concept: 5
Game did not show any new ideas as far as gameplay or content. The game was
the same old basic racing format with arcade graphics, not even a multiplayer
mode. Maybe racing from Hooters Restaurant to Hooters Restaurant across the
country with a sack of burgers on the seat next to ya, or even one of the
Hooters girls, at least that would be new. Although it probably wouldn't add too
much to the game.
Multiplayer: N/A
Overall: 5
Hooters Road Trip is a pretty good arcade style single player racer. Overall
the game is pretty simple once you get your cars set up. It's just good ol'
straight up racing with the added bonus of the beautiful Hooters girls displayed
throughout the game. Are these girls added to help sell the game? Probably, but
the combination of racing game and the girls is a good one. (and to address any
fears that the Mom's and Dad's might have about their kids playing this game,
there is NO nudity in this game, all the girls are displayed tastefully, and
fully clothed, in swim suit or Hooters uniform)
While Ovaldog can't give this game two thumbs up due to the arcade nature of the game, I will give it one thumbs up as a FUN game to play with some really beautiful scenery (wink wink)
