GORE Review
In the mid-21st century, the planet fell into ruin as street gangs grew into terror patrols, controlling neighborhoods and sometimes entire cities. Desperate to reclaim power the U.S. government has developed a highly advanced training simulator. As you are in the simulator you realize that some unknown source has hacked the program and you are now fighting to save your life and the lives of many others. Grab your weapons its time to beat some bad guys into a bloody pulp.
This title is pretty similar to most FPS (Quake, Unreal, etc). Grab some cool weapons (30 or so in all), and blow away all the badies, while trying to complete some mission objectives. The weapons are quite typical of most games from this genre. Pistols, grenades, shotguns, sniper rifles, rocket launchers, bombs, etc. Most of them have a secondary firing mode, which gives the shooter additional firepower options. One very cool feature I liked was the ability to actually blow up the weapons. IE, bad guy near a weapon you hit the weapon causing an area effect explosion. Very cool when your maxed out on ammo, and you need to kill something quickly. In short if you can pick it up, you can blow it up as well.
There are some different character classes to choose from. Each character class is unique and carefully balanced and each has its own character model and playing style. Some characters move faster, but big characters are tougher. When the player picks up armor you will actually see them wearing it. Armor will have to shoot off to cause any damage. If a player is not wearing a complete suit of armor you can target unarmored parts to cause damage. I loved being sprayed with machine gun fire and seeing remnants of my armor falling to the ground. Very cool effect.
With over 20 some exciting levels, Gore features awesome multiplayer games as well including Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Capture the flag, and Tactical. What's so different about that? Well in Gore the developers added stamina to add realism to the game. Now jumping and running around with heavy weapons can take a toll on the player. I did not find this feature to be a big hindrance in the single player games too much, but loved it in the multiplayer games. I hate watching online players jumping around fragging me left and right and never get tired. The stamina feature kept these players at bay a bit with just enough time to line them up in my sights!
All in all this is a solid game, which I think, offers a lot of replayability even after you master the single player games. It only demands a MSRP of 30 bucks, which in my opinion is well worth it. If you love FPS you should definitely give this one a try!

Reviewer's Scoring Details |
Gameplay: 8
Easy
Interface to navigate and a lot of weapons to help your cause.
Graphics: 8
Pretty decent but
I wouldn't call the graphics mind blowing. The environments and character
modeling was good but the blood effects were a bit blocky.
Sound: 8
Music and
voiceovers were pretty good and some of the language may keep it at a mature
rating. Some of the effects could use some enhancing, but overall were pretty
good.
Difficulty: Medium
The easiest level is still a bit
challenging, but you can toggle the settings for the most extreme experience.
Concept: 7
Besides the
storyline, its very similar to Quake, Unreal, etc.
Multiplayer: 9
Both LAN and Internet play
available. Gamespy is a quick and easy way to join other Gore fans and comes
on the disk if you choose to install it. Many cool games that will send you
fragging anything that moves.
Overall: 8
Tons of fun and
re-playability for a MSRP of 30 bucks!
