Review
Finally a WWII sim with loads of action, and virtually no boredom. Developed in cooperation with veterans of the 390th Bombardment Group of the United States Army Air Corps. This gunning game will leave you white knuckled and can be quite addicting. 25 missions that progressively get tougher. A plethora of German aircraft to bring down, and targets to bomb. You can toggle between all the guns and you become the bombardier when you reach your drop zone. No flying on this one, it’s all about gunning! You can use your mouse or joystick, but for you force feed back fans, you are going to be disappointed.
You get to control 6 .50-caliber machine gun positions and bomb from a Norden bombsite when you reach your target. Defend your flying fortress from the gauntlet of Luftwaffe aircraft while flying through German anti aircraft fire. If you don’t watch yourself you will find your B-17 riddled with holes and your turret positions being destroyed.
Well the game only took 350MB of space on your hard drive. That should give you a good idea on the content! Unfortunately I was very disappointed with just about everything. From the mission briefing, right up through the mission debriefing where you obtain all your stats. The graphics were archaic for lack of a better word, and the voice-overs though decent, were very repetitive. What would have been nice is hearing where the bandits were coming from, more than once or twice during a mission. One step further incase you were playing with no sound, could have had the gunner position blink where there was activity. (Just a thought) The mission briefings were all text and even some of those were repetitive. I love the idea of bringing us gunning gamers what we love shooting, shooting and more shooting. In my opinion if you want to leave the other stuff out, at least make this a beautifully designed game with plenty of detail and eye candy. But HEY, I just review them and it is only one opinion.
Easy:
Installation was a breeze and very fast!
Gameplay: 5
So much room for improvement considering
today’s technology.
Graphics: 4
Blocky even on the fullest resolution and detail settings.
Sound: 6
Halfway decent sound effects but repetitive voice-overs were quite annoying.
A 10 for adding a sound off toggle…but I thought that’s what
volume control was for.
Difficulty: 7
The game did get progressively harder which made it quite addicting.
Concept: 7
I thought the concept was good, take out the entire annoying BS that goes with
most flight sims and give us what we all love…shooting big guns!
Overall: 5
The game felt as if it were rushed to market.
