Disney's Action Game, Donald Duck Goin’ Quackers Review
Donald's honey Daisy is in trouble and I mean trouble with a capital T. Seems like the love of Donald's life has been kidnapped by that mean hearted magician Merlock! Foul play sputters Donald! What's a lovelorn duck supposed to do? Why rescue his true love of course!
Wait a duck-loving minute now. There is another admirer in the wings who wants to rescue this woman who owns Donald's heart. His name is Gladstone and he will not under any circumstances be upstaged by any other duck no matter who he is. Although I love our Donald, I have to admit that old Gladstone has certain flair. All this aside, Donald has another problem, how to rescue his Daisy?
Never fear Gyro is here! Gyro? Why Gyro Gearloose of course! This lab happy, invention-making man of Science has created a teleporter and has agreed to teleport our hero into Merlocks Temple where our poor Daisy is being held. Piece of cake right? Aw, no so fast my fowl-loving friend. Before Donald can rescue his love he must power up the old teleporter which although powerful just does not have enough juice to carry Donald to his destination.
This is where the game really begins, although the way the story is introduced via reporter Extra! Extra! is priceless. A movie in a game, which is a real bonus Disney style. Some of the missions you must accomplish to rescue Daisy includes finding pieces hidden by Merlock in 4 levels. To complete each level you must find the missing piece and once you have found all four you can put together the Boss Warp Pad. You must also find Heuy, Dewey and Louie's toys, which have been stolen by that black heart Merlock. I loved the nephews as they are perfect scaled from cartoon to game. Once you accomplish this goal you are entered in "the bonus level" A hint on this, make sure you keep an eye on the counter at all times.
I have to tell you that although I love several things about this game, one of my favorite is the mood swings of Americas well known and well loved duck. Throughout the game you will be given chances to collect items to change his mood. Keeping Donald happy is the mood you want to keep the game even, but you really have to see the other moods to appreciate them. Make sure you collect plenty of Shakes as they turn an otherwise unassuming Donald into Hyper Duck! Jim Carrey has nothing on this duck! I thought I would cry I laughed so hard, until I met a Berserk Donald! Gamers, you have to see this! If there is anything more hilarious than a web wad of fur flying fowl in a nasty mood than I have never seen it. Of course he comes complete with the $%$@$#^^ language which we don't understand yet get the understanding loud and clear. This is one of those games, which offer a challenge but also a lot of fun and laughter as well as cheering for the hero of our comics and movies.
Install: Easy
Involves installation of single CD. Make sure though that all the settings
featured in game specs are in place to get the best gameplay of this game.
Gameplay: 8.5
The game is consistently balanced when it comes to the challenge on all the
levels you must place to complete the game. Directions are clear and the game
makes them easy to follow yet hard enough to keep the game fun and well paced.
Graphics: 9.0
Graphics are classic Disney throughout the game, which makes them some of
the best. Bright and bold colors highlight this game. The characters both foe
and friends are beautifully done with a lot of eye to detail.
Sound: 9.0
Good clarity as far as speech and background. All dialogue is clear and easy
to follow along with the storyline.
Difficulty: 8.5
This game has created the perfect level of difficulty Vs challenge. Younger
ages will be able to play the game with enough ease to keep them playing yet
enough difficulty to want them to finish the game and feel good about it when
they do. Older ages will also enjoy the game itself though on a different level.
Concept: 8.5
The concept of rescue has been done before but never with this much pomp and
circumstance. The rescue itself is fun but the moods of Donald are the real star
here. Hyper Donald steals the game.
Multiplayer: N/A
Overall: 9.0
This game is not only fun to play but has a lot of bonuses along the way.
Players will enjoy the familiarity they feel with the characters that have been
around for generations. The moods of Donald are simply a have to see! The play
of the game is one of skill, which is gained level by level. The whole feel of
the game is a light and bright one and is just as much fun played over and over
as it is the first time. A good family playing game which is always a plus.
