World War III - Black Gold Review
This is not just another RST. The brains behind Earth 2150 and The Moon Project have brought us a modern-day RTS complete with 3D graphics. I believe that the 3D effect will bring gamers what they have been missing in traditional 2D Strategy games. The use of real world weapons, armory, and vehicles enhance the experience of modern day warfare.
You have three military powers to choose from. They are Russia, Iraq, and the great US of A! Each side has some 15 or so buildings to build your base with, and 20 or so weapons or so to defend and attack with Whichever army is chosen, each allows the player to select two campaigns, consisting of 5 missions on average. Each campaign begins and ends with a rendered film scene.
Your money comes from building oil resources and is the only resource in the game. There is no need to process oil; it is automatically exchanged for cash. This idea eliminates the need for mining units and lets the player concentrate on defending the oil fields he or she builds. (Very nice)
Your units are flown in via supply choppers once a supply depot is built. You can choose the direction of your supply choppers in which they fly in to avoid being shot down by enemy units. You can add units to special groups by selecting them in advance or use the classic drag and select to form your attack force. Not only can you destroy the opposing forces buildings, you can also capture them by using your army’s special capturing units.

Install: Easy
Gameplay: 7
Easy to use interface
Graphics: 9
Well done! Nice to see a 3D version of this genre
Sound: 8
Great music and sound
Difficulty: 10
You can adjust the difficulty as much as you like. The hardest will be
skirmishes online!
Concept: 7
Modern true to life weapons is a nice twist
Multiplayer: ? At time of review was not experienced due to either server problems or system problems, still working on that one. Keep in mind that if you want to play via LAN, you need a copy of the game for each PC…That’s a drag!
Overall: 7
Good game, but a copy of the game for each PC is a bit much If you want to
play on a home network.
