Sabrina, The Animated Series: Magical Adventure Review

Magic and mayhem strike the mall in this fast paced adventure game by Knowledge Adventure. The game is geared toward 5-9 year olds and after playing it, they may look at their local mall in a totally different way!

The characters in the game come straight out of Sabrina Teenage Witch television program and are very closely adapted to game form. Sabrina and her friends from the series, along with her beloved sidekick Salem the cat, are on a mission and the mission is the mall. Evil (although not evil enough to scare the gamers) witch Gemini Stone has in her possession a magical amulet. With this amulet she is able to change models to mice, groomers to poodles and well, you get the picture! To say she is a menace is an understatement, and the mall must be saved by her high jinks.

It's Sabrina and friends to the rescue! To regain possession of the amulet, Sabrina and her friends must pass five levels of play, and each level is as much fun as the last. Dodging fruit, smoothies and other items are just a few of the obstacles put in Sabrina's path to success and restoring peace to the Greendale Mall. One of the biggest highlights in this game is the intermission or reward you receive when you have conquered a level. You are treated to a mini cartoon movie featuring Sabrina -- and these movies are almost as much fun as the game itself!

Those who play the game are familiar with the characters thanks to the series, and this makes the game even more enjoyable. Salem's irascible personality is perfectly adapted to game form and adds a humor to the entire adventure. Using the mall as the base of the game was a good choice as players can easily identify with the setting. Add this to the familiarity with Sabrina and this game is a definite winner. Players will cheer for Sabrina and since they feel they already know her, they become her interactive teammate in conquering Gemini Stone instead of being just a participant. Although this game is age appropriate for 5-9, I think that girls will enjoy it a little more than boys, but it is guaranteed to be a path for fun for either.

Installation: Easy - Easy to install as it involves one CD.

Gameplay: 8 - The game is fast enough paced for players to pass each level while enjoying the challenge.

Graphics: 8 - The graphics of everything from the mall to magical spells cast are very well done. Colors are bright and vivid.

Sound: 9 - The sound was very clear and the speaking articulate enough to be able to follow directions to conquer the levels of the game.

Difficulty: 7.5 - The game challenges are not extremely difficult, but the fact that the player feels as if he is part of Sabrina's team makes the difficulty less important to the player than helping Sabrina save the day and the mall.

Concept: 9 - The concept of combining characters from a television show with interaction from fans makes this game even more enjoyable. Though not unique in concept, it is definitely one of the best television show-adapted games on the market.

Overall: 8 - Children will enjoy helping their television hero win over the evil nemesis Gemini Stone. It is the time told story of good versus evil and it is done in a manner in which children will have fun and cheer at the end.
