WWF With Authority! Review

WWF with authority is the digitized and Internet based version of the semi popular collectable card game of the same name.  One of the latest additions to a genre brought popularized by the internationally known Magic the Gathering.  However unlike Magic the Gathering which created fame for itself by starting with a card game and building a fan base based on amazing artwork and creative thinking, WWF has started with massive fan base to which they are simply supplying more merchandise.

That is what this game essentially is, merchandise.  The fact that WWF is not hinging its existence on the success of this game is abundantly clear.  This game translates the card game directly into the computer world.  Every additional 'card' has to be purchased with real money from the WWF store conveniently built right into the game.  It is a money making machine.

Capitalist interests aside the game itself does not have much to offer.  While there is a soundtrack and photographic quality graphics, there is no attempt to make the game anything but what it started out to be, namely a simple card game.  The graphics are static the interface not particularly friendly and the gameplay is slow.  Often opponents I played longed of in boredom rather than staying to finish the match.

WWF with authority, while appealing to the interests of wrestling fans worldwide offers none of the tension excitement or action that has made the wrestling industry the success that it is.  If you feel the need to support the wrestling industry or are a collector of wrestling memorabilia this may be something you want.  However this game does nothing to attract anyone but the hardcore fan.  For the rest of us it’s a waste of space.

Install: Easy
Nothing to it

Gameplay: 2
Dull without any of the elements that make wrestling fun.

Graphics: 3
Near static graphics do not enhance an already poor game.

Sound: 5
Music and voice overs almost make this game bearable.  However even the soundtrack lacks variety.

Difficulty: 5
Like Othello "a minute to learn a lifetime to master"....but why you would play it beyond the minute it takes to realize what a useless game it is is beyond me.

Concept: 3
Drawing heavily on an already established genre for game mechanics and a popularized media for fans, this game didn't need much of a concept.

Multiplayer: 4
The game is based on one on one interaction promoted through open chat rooms were challenges can be issued.

Overall: 2
The only reason to buy this game is loyalty to the WWF.  You wont get your moneys worth.
