Destroyer Command Review
Destroyer Command takes you into the seas of the North Atlantic and the balmy pacific where you will serve as a destroyer commander in the US Navy. You will combat German, Italian, and Japanese forces in a wide variety of naval actions. You will be tasked with protecting convoys, screening battle groups, hunting enemy submarines, supporting infantry landings, battling enemy aircraft and surface units and much more.
You can play the game as a top down strategy commanding your fleet to attack, scout, provide escorts, help out in an amphibious assault etc. Choosing certain ships to do different tasks to complete mission objectives. You can also take control of an individual ship and literally take part in every action of the ship. Does it sound overwhelming? Well it can be at first. If you take time to follow the training missions that do require too follow a few sections of the manual, you will be commanding with the best of them in no time. My advice to new gamers is to follow the training missions first. If you try and just play right outta the box it can be a bit frustrating.
You will have control of all the areas on the ship. The radio room, the helm, Torpedo station, Main guns, and well you get the idea. What I truly loved about the game is that you can call out ship movements like speed and heading from almost anywhere on the ship rather than having to go back to the helm to issue the command. Another beautiful thing is the time compression. You have the ability in playing real time where one minute of game time is equivalent to one minute of real time. Or speed it up to 2048 times which is about 34 minutes of game time to one second of real time. This allows those boring patrolling missions, which could literally take days to complete to be completed in a reasonable amount of time. If you make a sonar contact for example, the game automatically goes to real time so you can carry out your objective (IE. sink those U-boats) without missing the battle. Great idea guys!
One of the most unique features of Destroyer Command is there will be the ability to play against owners of the WWII German U-boat title,
Silent Hunter II, via Internet or LAN. This will be a first in computer gaming, allowing players of two different products to compete against each other on the same "virtual battlefield". A definite release date of this patch has not been disclosed at the time of this review.Destroyer Command also features cooperative and head-to-head multiplayer options with other Destroyer Command players.
I believe that a niche of WWII naval sim gamers will find this game simply awesome. Where the game lacks in eye candy, more than makes up in strategy re-playability, and realism. The new feature of taking your destroyers against those u-boat strategist of Silent Hunter 2 will make this title a must have for any Naval combat sim enthusiast.

In addition to the game, you may need to install some other apps as well.
Gameplay: 8
Interface takes a minute to get used to, but after a few attempts it will
become second nature. You can either play from a top down perspective or take
command of all the stations on your destroyer.
Graphics: 7
With today's current technology and fast PC's, they could have been a bit
better.
Sound: 7
Nothing spectacular, but not horrible either
Difficulty: 9
You can toggle many gaming options to make the experience very true to life.
The multiplayer options will not only allow re-playability, but will add to the
difficulty significantly.

Not just another WWII Naval sim. The introduction of allowing another piece
of Naval Software (Silent Hunter 2) to compete against Destroyer Command via
multiplayer gives concept a boost in points.
Multiplayer: Available but was not experienced at time of review.
Overall: 8
This will appeal to any WWII naval sim fans.
