Chris Taylor has long been a fueling force in the strategy genre, releasing titles that break the mold and move the genre forward in great new ways. Starting with Total Annihilation, Taylor has shaken the foundation of the often stagnating strategy genre with compelling new ideas. Now, Taylor and his development house, Gas Powered Games, are readying their latest real-time strategy opus, Demigod for the PC.
Demigod is a real-time strategy title with role-playing elements throughout. You’ll take control of one of eight different demigods as they compete in arena-like settings and vie for a position of full-on godhood. The game showcased some great mechanics and fast-paced play, and should be something that strategy fans will definitely want to check out.
The concept behind Demigod is simple: using your uber-powerful demigod, you must take on a rival demigod and destroy their stronghold before they can destroy yours. The eight demigods are essentially broken up into two groups, four “general” characters and four “assassin” characters. You’ll be able to summon minions as you go on the assault, as well as buy new items for your demigod character to turn them into even more of a destructive badass.
One thing that is immediately noticeable in Demigod is how gorgeous the graphics are. Each character model was made with the utmost consideration, and each is extremely technically impressive and rife with tons of details. The art design is one that gamers will certainly be talking about when the game releases. Surprisingly, the game’s minimum system specs will actually be less than those of Supreme Commander, which should definitely appeal to gamers without brand spanking new video cards.
Demigod is shaping up very impressively, with fun and fast action-strategy gameplay and some great RPG elements throughout. The graphics look great and do an excellent job of conveying the game’s great art direction without being too terribly taxing on most PCs. Look out for it next February.
