Don’t let the cutesy exterior cover paint fool you – Trickster Online Revolution has some very deep, multi-faceted gameplay elements, and the development team at Ntreev has taken great pains to see that the game is not only inviting, but free from the coin-farming that hampers most other massively multiplayer games.

And there is always the simple fact that in the long run, if fighting the various monsters spread throughout the world is not your cup of tea, you simply don’t have to do that. The game really scales to what you, the player, like to do.

The press information for the game states:

“Trickster Online is completely free-to-play MMORPG based on the story of a group of adventurers from around the world all vying to become the greatest adventurer of all time and to get their hands on the infamous Don Cavalier fortune! Trickster Online Revolution incorporates cute and fun characters based on animals such as bunnies, sheep, raccoons, cats, buffalos, dragons, lions and foxes. The title offers a wide variety of skills and jobs, which can be customized to fit the individual taste and playing style of any player, as well as plenty of quests and stories for nearly endless hours of gameplay!

Don't wanna fight? That's not a problem with the exclusive Drilling System. You can find hidden items with the Drill of your choice; discover buried items beneath the ground of Caballa Island and gain valuable EXP to improve your character! Forget the old, boring battle system; the gripping card-based system is here, engage in head to head competition with the exclusive Card Battle system! Players can also create a cyber home inside the game, called, My Camp! Show your personality by decorating your very My Camp!”

The folks at the Ntreev US division were kind enough to provide an escorted tour of the lands upon which the Trickster lands are founded.

As the press release stated, you don’t have to fight monsters to level (the level cap is 400). You can drill (which is akin to hunting for buried treasure and you can come up with some pretty nifty stuff), or you can participate in the card-battle system. The tour guide stated that you could go to level 60 without every fighting a monster.

“What sets Trickster apart, when you get down to the nitty gritty,” GZ was told, is that it “is patched every two weeks and the end game is a constantly changing environment.”

The game is very big on the social element. Not only are there are different play abilities for each gender within a class, but the My Camp element is like a little house (in keeping with the game’s light-hearted and cutesy approach it is called Sleepy Sleepy) and players can decorate it to fit their individual style. This presents a very nice social element.

Trickster Revolution is a micro-transaction MMO. You can pay to expand upon your play experience – like changing your looks, get better at PvP, and can even buy pets at the My Shop store. Earning coins within the game setting is easy and the creators of the game will even occasionally gift players items.

The storyline is progressive, with each level leading to the next. At the end of the questing in each level there is an NPC in town called Andrew, and this is the last NPC you need to talk to in a zone. He will send you along in another direction.

The look of the game is very anime, with a very cute environment. “Even if we have something scary, it has a cute spin on it,” it was stated.

There are a lot of facets to the game, like the acknowledgment to pop culture (like The Crow). The game has undergone a lot of customization for the North American version.  Ntreev USA has an in-house localization and translation team. And in an effort to hamper any gold farmers, in-game currency has been made pretty easy to come by. There are also some very strong penalties for players abusing the system, but so much is configured into the game that it eliminates many of the cheats or farming that some may try to pull in.

As mentioned, the game does have micro-transactions, but players can access everything at a basic level without paying for anything. But there are items that will include micro-transactions.

There are specific PvP zones (three of them) and generally, the battle system is very easy on players. Until you get to a certain area, few creatures will aggro on players. Death is a slight drop in experience, and comes into play at level 30. The game also has a fairly deep crafting system, with NPCs doing the work off items you have collected.

Trickster Revolution is certainly high on the cute factor, but underscoring that is a deceptively complex game that might be targeted at younger players but will certainly immerse them in more than the fundamentals of playing an MMO if given a chance.
