E3 2006 First Look Preview
One thing that there was no shortage of here at the show this year was RPG titles, so it really takes something a little unique and different to make one of these types of games in the genre stand out. 1C is currently in development of a game called Battlelord, which looks to combine a couple of styles in it’s own way and come up with a pretty decent title for you RPG and turn based strategy folks out there.
Battlelord has you controlling a medieval character through colorful and well detailed landscapes, from lush green valleys to dark, twisted, fiery outlands fighting and leveling as you go. One you encounter an enemy or a target, the game will change from real time movement to a turn based strategy format complete with hex mapping, treasures, obstacles, and of course … your friends and foes. Combat consists of melee attacks and magic, and one of the spells showcased in the demo was a summoned rock golem type creature who turned into a large sword and impaled a goblin into the ground. It flowed well, and looked decent.
For those of you who are going to be looking for a good, fun RPG title which offers a couple of styles to keep things entertaining, this could be a good one to keep an eye out for. Be looking for Battlelord in 4Q 2006 or 1Q 2007.
