E3 2006 First Look Preview

Dreamcatcher is the same company that brought us Painkiller a while back, and it was unique in offering a really advanced physics engine to go with a run and gun shooter. Well, they are now entering outer space and offering up an RTS title which looks like it could be promising. Genesis Rising takes place in the future and revolves around humans looking to conquer the universe. In order to do this, they have designed living, growing ships known as Orchanids. These fighters will come in the usual variety of light, medium, and heavy class … but ill also have upgrade slots (called Geneslots) on them which will allow for you to add things like armor upgrades or new weapons (called genes). This will definitely help play into overall strategy depending on situations that you encounter.

As stated, the game is an RTS but with full 360 degree movements and camera abilities which could open up some good strategy possibilities, maybe like having a group of small fighters take on a larger one or being able to maneuver a smaller, faster ship around a potentially dangerous cannon or foe. The graphics are looking sharp and really nice so far, so you will get to see all of the lighting effects and space detail from any angle during the battles.

When released, Genesis Rising will offer a single player story mode, Co – op missions, and up to 16 person online play. You will also be able to use a trade window in single or multiplayer to trade or obtain new genes for your ships, and then you will be able to create them from templates later on.
