A virus, Dusk 12, has gotten loose and a town has gone from peaceful to deadly. The project, from which the virus was derived, was intended to create the perfect soldier. But it ran out of control and became, instead, an incurable virus that turns those infected into mutants possessing deadly skills.
Dusk 12 is developed by Orion and will be published by Buka Entertainment, with the anticipated release date of 2007.
It was demonstrated at E3 (Electronic Entertainment Expo) in Los Angeles Wednesday. Buka's Ivan Bunakov discussed the title while an extended trailer of the game played, underscoring key points in the presentation.
The city is under quarantine and a team of Spec Ops goes in, and you will play as a member of the team. But if you think that you only play the game from the perspective of the soldiers, think again. Midway through the game, you become infected with the virus and the game mechanics change accordingly. As a member of Spec Ops, you rely on your ranged attacks. As a mutated human, the attacks go more melee with some psi abilities as well.
The city is broken into zones and features about 15-20 hours of gameplay in the single-player mode. There is also a multiplayer mode with deathmatch and team deathmatch available, though players will be able to play as either a member of Spec Ops or as a mutant.
The game sports a totally new graphics engine, and what Orion calls an innovative physics system where not only is the environment destructible but elements can be used as weapons. There will be three drivable vehicles in the game and players can either drive the vehicles or take on the role of the vehicle-bound shooter while the computer drives.
Dusk 12 is shaping up to join the ranks of the state-of-the-art PC first-person shooter titles with solid game elements, a good look and fast-pace action.
