E3 2006 First Look Preview
Of course, everyone wants to know about the big companies and big names here at the show, like Square Enix and Nintendo, but I personally like to try and focus in on some of the smaller developers since a lot of great titles come out of them that tend to sometimes fly under the radar. One of these games is called Heavy Duty, and is scheduled for release in Q1 2007.
Heavy Duty follows you and your squadron which is sent to a colonized planet that has been inhabited by an alien threat. You are to eliminate this enemy and protect the colony, and to do so you will have full access to zoom all the way out into space and zoom into any one of the three continents at any time. Once there, you will control either one or all of a mech fighting force into hostile territory to destroy the hostile invaders. There is also a diplomacy system which will allow you to recruit more soldiers from different colonies that you help protect, and you can capture enemy units to research their technology and use it to upgrade your own mechs or whatever, since you will also have access to ground forces, tanks, and aerial assault vehicles.
The graphics, lighting,
and effects are looking great so far, and the environments will also be
destructive by allowing you to blow holes in the ground or even set up
strategies like climbing up a wall and pushing boulders down on unsuspecting
foes. You will also be able to plant various squads in different cities to
defend on their own, then head out that way if needed. For you action / RTS kind
of fans, this one looked great and is one to be on the lookout for in the
future.
