Bet On Soldier: Blood Sport Preview

Bet on Soldier is the latest title from the crew at Digital Jesters, and the First Person Shooter is set to introduce a brand new element to the world of intense shooters: placing bets. As a mercenary on a popular TV show where combatants enter an arena and kill each other for cash prizes, you defeat hordes of enemies, earning fame and fortune and buying better weapons and armor as you progress through the campaign. Bet on Soldier also features a great game engine, with nice physics and smooth graphics. Bet on Soldier is poised to innovate the genre with a new concept and could very well become the sleeper hit FPS of the year.

The world of Bet on Soldier is in constant turmoil, with war being a very lucrative endeavor for the big corporations that control all aspects of civilization. The corporations that run the world fund these wars as a matter of war profiteering, with no point behind the conflict other than a means to make money. Mercenaries, whose whole purpose of fighting is to gain the funds necessary to purchase more weapons and better armor, fight these wars. You are one such mercenary, fighting in a brutal television show in order to not only gain money, but get prestige and fame as well.

The gameplay dynamic in Bet on Soldier is a very interesting one. You fight on a battlefield similar to other shooters like Unreal Tournament and, well, Battlefield, killing tons of enemies. For each enemy that you kill, you gain some money to your stockpile. At certain points within the combat arena, there are refuel stations, where your character can purchase more ammunition and repair their armor. You aren’t fighting alone, as you have a team of mercenaries behind you that act accordingly, protecting you from gunfire when you are weakened and taking out enemies on their own. You can command them around somewhat, but strategy isn’t the focus of the game, just all-out action.

At random points in the fight, Bet on Soldier matches will take place. You must fight an individual foe, or champion, in a one on one gladiator-style match. These fights will garner you a lot of money should you win, as well as fame.

The battles are very fast and furious, with tons of enemies attacking you at once. The characters and environments are extremely well rendered and very realistic, moving quite smoothly even in this early build. Pieces of armor would fall off of soldiers’ bodies when they were shot and the bodies met their demise with nice rag doll effects.

Expect fast and intense action when Bet on Soldier releases this August.
