E3 2004 PreviewsIn 1974, a covert group from the 7th Directorate of the KGB was formed to battle terrorism and fight crime.

The unit became known as the Spetsnaz. Members of that unit have helped MiST Land and publisher Strategy First to create Alfa Antiterror, a turn-based tactical combat game that will challenge players to work hard in an almost chess-like setting.

The game features a variety of missions that will challenge players. You are placed in insertion zone, and from there you must deploy your troops and accomplished the tasks laid out for you in through the four episodes and 22 mission campaign. And players are not just asked to move all players during their turn. You can separate out units and move them independently of one another. Move snipers into location and then move other units under their umbrella of protection.

Set waypoints for the units, utilize terrain elements, use line of sight and hearing to spot and take down enemies. The game will also let players rewind the action to see what may have happened away from the camera during a given turn. Each of the missions is comprised of a series of objectives and secondary objectives and are not based on a timer. You can, however, set a timer on the length of time a player takes for a move during online play.

Each mission has a typical mission briefing and load-out in which players can select the members of their units as well as equip them.

The missions are historically accurate. The game has three options for multiplayer gaming: LAN, e-mail and hotseat.

The environments are lush and three dimensional. The game will also use rag-doll physics on the players that are shot down. This title features a solid soundtrack.

Alfa Antiterror is a solid shooter game that is more cerebral than reflexive. You are challenged to make the smart moves, to think through the situation and within a time frame. If you looking for a challenging and intriguing tactical combat experience, then you need look no further than Alfa Antiterrorist.
