E3 2006 First Look Preview

FPS games have been around for a while, and there’s a lot of them to choose from. 1C is working on one set in an alternate 1950’s world of Soviet Russia where the government has decided to use a scientific experiment to turn it’s citizens into “super communists”. Well, as we all know if everything goes OK it doesn’t make for much of a game, and the experiment goes bad and instead makes some crazed, zombie – like, and really aggressive communists instead that will assault you at every turn.

The demo showed off some nice environmental detailing, and the game takes a very industrial, powerful kind of tone complete with rust, blood, and peeling paint to set the mood. Also, as the title implies, ammo isn’t going to be in every trash can and windowsill … and while there are authentic weapons to get from that period, you may many times find yourself relying on melee combat with things like pipes, wrenches, and nail guns.  

FPS games aren’t new obviously, and You Are Empty is looking like it will add some neat Condemned like elements with a little more FPS speed to help keep things entertaining. It’s slated to hit in 4Q 2006 or 1Q 2007.
