Jump
to Lightspeed is the expansion pack for the MMORPG Star Wars Galaxies, allowing
players to settle scores in space instead of on the ground. With his expansion
players will be able to engage in ship to ship combat in space, and travel
between planets. It will also open up tons of new missions and ways to gain
experience.
The fighting in Jump to Lightspeed is all real-time, much like a flight sim or space shooter. Even in its early state, everything looked beautiful and the controls seemed great. 15 ships will be available from the beginning, including X-Wings, Tie Fighters, and even Hut Fighters. I even saw the Millenium Falcon in combat. Multiple players were able to hang out inside the ship as it flew and enjoy the completely customizable interior. All the ships are fully upgradable and configurable, depending on your skills or the size of your wallet of course, and include a full 3D cockpit.
Totally new skills will be added in the expansion, like engine building or piloting skills. The ship building and upgrading skills will help you build better engines to install in your ship or to sell. Piloting skills will help with things like guns overheating or shield energy distribution.
Pilots will even gain experience specific to piloting. As your rank goes up, you do jobs for higher up officers and are able to learn more details about the job. You’ll also get more important jobs and more loot for completing them.
Jump to Lightspeed includes 10 zones to fly in, each with location appropriate ambiance including frigates, pirates, rebellion and empire ships, etc. The amount of quests and jobs to do in space will be abundant. Right now it’s looking very sweet, and the space combat adds a faster pace to the combat. Star Wars Galaxies: Jump to Lightspeed is slated for a Fall release.
