E3 2004 PreviewsSometimes attitude will get you answers you may not otherwise get. If you are Detective Goren, you will have to do whatever you can to get the right answers to solve the mystery.

Law & Order: Criminal Intent breaks out of the mold of Legacy Interactive titles. Rather than being a sequel to the first-person title, Criminal Intent takes the game to the third-person perspective and delivers up a series of cases (four in all) and will link together to reveal the master criminal behind the whole plotline.

“The goal is to build a criminal profile,” said producer Christina Taylor Oliver.

The script has been written by a member of the Criminal Intent writing team, and features more than 50 speaking parts, 500 pages of dialogue and 60 locations. Notable among the voice talent are Vincent D’Onofrio as Det. Goren and Jamey Sheridan as Captain Deakins.

The environments are all pre-rendered to yield a rich environment, swimming with perspective and obstacles. The camera is fixed and players will have to use a mouse to navigate. Click on a hotspot and you will get a drawdown menu of options. During interviews you can determine what attitude to effect during the interview. If you play it wrong, you may not get the information you seek. If you play it right, you will see it on the screen and come away with all the information needed to help solve the case.

The build previews at E3 was, by no means, complete, but enough was there to see the progression of a game that will delight fans of the Law & Order series. The perspective is fresh and the game will have a host of puzzles and adventure over a large mapboard.

This game is expected to carry a Teen rating, and will be released in the first quarter of 2005.
