E3 2004 PreviewsA 20-year-old Eastern European tennis star is found dead on the floor of the clubhouse. An autopsy reveals steroids in her system. She is also pregnant.

Thus begins the latest romp in the Law & Order universe, Law & Order: Justice is Served.

“Just like on the show, the plot of Justice is Served has many twists and turns,” said producer Christina Taylor Oliver.

The game itself has seen several upgrades. It is done at a higher resolution, contains twice as many puzzles and the UI has been redesigned for accessibility. It is apparent that the developers have paid attention to the game’s fan base and have incorporated what gamers want into this title.

And this game is much bigger than its predecessor. Law & Order II had a 300-page script while Justice is Server has a 500-page script. The game also sports higher polygons in each of the characters – 40,000 as compared to 12,000 in L&O 2. Jesse L. Martin lends her voice to this game and a cameo role is played by Patrick McEnroe.

Other features include:

  • More characters: 40 speaking characters vs. 30 in Law & Order II

  • More locations: 30 vs. 22 in Law & Order II

  • Unlockable bonus content featuring actors from the show

  • Greater interviewing flexibility: In addition to interview questions, witnesses can be asked about any piece of evidence as well as any other witness

  • Increased phone functionality: Players can dial out and conduct interviews by phone in addition to receiving incoming messages

The game is being penned by one of the writers of the television show.

Law & Order: Justice is Served has lush graphics and solid animation. The game does use some of the stock mouse-driven controls common to the series, but this is a game that will have broad appeal.

This game is expected to carry a teen rating and will be released on September 30, 2004.
