E3 2006 First Look Preview

One title that was showcased by CDV this year is called Pacific Storm, and allows the player to get into more of the naval battle aspect of WWII. This game is not going to be a standard “hey, I need an RTS fix title” but instead is going to be much more in depth and will rely heavily on resource management, building, and even down to details like allocating which pilots to which planes and which aircraft carriers you would like them to be based on.

One unique thing about Pacific Storm is the fact that one part of the game is played out on a tabletop like, graph style sea chart where you can see and plot your strategies and building and placement around potential enemy strategy. Once you move into a skirmish, the game will then change off into an RTS style of gameplay where you not only can command your fleet in either real time or “pause, issue command, and continue” gameplay. You will also be able to take individual command of planes or even gunner turrets, which gives you a little bit of a bonus and may actually turn the tide of the battle if you think it’s going to be a close one.

This is one of those games that could really provide some long term enjoyment to you armchair generals out there, so be looking for it to hit the stores shortly in July of this year.
