Dreamfall The Longest Journey

What led to the state she is in? For the answer to that, players will have to take a journey back in time. The game is Dreamfall – The Longest Journey, a new wave of adventure gaming that combines some elements of point-and-click exploration with an evolving storyline that takes place in the future.

Dreamfall is coming to PCs from FunCom and is slated to be released later this year. It was on display during E3 in Los Angeles Wednesday (continuing until May 20).

This third-person vantage point begins with a different (and yet-to-be-revealed) scenario, then moves into the Zoe storyline, which takes place well into the future. A friend of Zoe’s has disappeared and she goes in search of him, finding a place he may have been splattered with blood, all while receiving strange visions.

Of course with a game like this, there is a quest log, and dialogue choices must be made. There is also inventory-item manipulation to help solve some of the puzzle elements of the game. There are some mini-games, as well; though the predominate one amounts to hacking a system to advance the storyline.

The game does feature diverse environments and as this is the predecessor to The Longest Journey, there are many game elements that either are derived from that adventure or reference it heavily.
