Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Chaos Theory Preview
Not
even a good three months since the release of Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow,
Ubi Soft has quite a bit of a sequel to show at E3. Splinter Cell 3 (working
title) follows Sam Fisher on a new campaign through North Korea as he fights to
stop World War III…again.
The year is 2008. A Japanese Information Defense Force, formed to face modern technologically advanced threats, is deemed a violation of international law and outrages Korea and Japan. To make matters worse, the head of the IDF has begun to stage information warfare attacks against Japan, framing North Korea for the attacks. The US intervenes and comes under attack as well, forcing North Korea into a pre-emptive invasion of South Korea. Enter Sam Fisher, as he must intercede and stop the war in Korea and prevent it from spreading to all parts of the world.
Splinter Cell 3 will feature futuristic yet accurate weapons, new moves and abilities and much-improved AI. Enemies will remember events and be aware of their environments and will act realistically. The demo had Sam Fisher taking down enemies in a variety of different ways; taking them out silently with his knife, grabbing enemies through paper walls and breaking their necks, or chucking them off of balconies.
The graphics looked incredible, even a big improvement over Pandora Tomorrow. The lighting and shadow effects were simply amazing, and the character models were very well animated and realistic. There was also a cool water effect occurring in the demo, as Sam’s suit collected droplets of water for a great effect.
Splinter Cell 3 is scheduled to be released before the end of the year.
