Strategy games are coming back in to the gaming fold in full power once more. Not only will these games capture you into their highly addictive gameplay, but this time they will be oozing with plenty of eye candy. Just look at many of the RTS titles being released within the next year, they are all nothing short of gorgeous. The same thing can be said of the game Earth 2160. Read more about it and why you should purchase this game when it is finally released.

Earth 2160 is actually the third in the “Earth” series games. I never got the chance to play Earth 2140, but I can tell you that this game has made a huge leap in everything since Earth 2150 has been released. The back story for the game is interesting. Earth has been destroyed and three factions are fighting over control of the planet Mars. It is up to the players to take control of any one of these three factions and become ruler of Mars.

One of the things that I really liked about Earth 2160 is how different each of the games faction’s play and the different tech trees that they have. In this preview build the only campaigns that were available was the Lunar Corporation and the Eurasian Dynasty. These two factions play differently because they each take a different approach to things. For instance the Eurasian Dynasty are more “traditionalist,” using brute force weapons that one might see in today’s warfare. On the other hand, the Lunar Corporations is very efficient and uses some high-tech futuristic weapons that we see only in the movies.

The gameplay in this preview build was really nice. I didn’t run into any framerate issues while playing this game, which could kill any game, especially games of this nature. Base building is just as expected in any RTS game, but the different approaches that the factions take is a nice refreshing change. You can just look at a base and instantly tell what faction you are up against, which is a refreshing changes in comparison to other real-time strategy games.

One thing that I really liked about this game is how the battles are done. If you go in with a ton of one certain type of unit, they will get demolished in no time. The secret to this game is having a good match of units before going into battle so that you have all of your bases covered. For instance, if you go in with all foot units and don’t have any air support, that could spell instant death for you. Balancing everything from troop type to researching new technology in this game is key if you want to win your battles, and eventually conquer the enemy.

Earth 2160 is a gorgeous game; there is no other way to put it. The developers at Reality Pump put a lot of effort to create an RTS game that can compete graphically with many first-person shooters, and they have more than succeeded. Everything in this game is just oozing with eye candy that will leave your eyes watering about how good this game looks. Everything in this game is highly detailed from the bases you will be constructing to the units that you will send off to do your bidding. The environments also look really good and give off that futuristic feel to them. What I like is when you zoom in close to the game in action, it still looks as great as it did not zoomed in, and everything retains its wonderful look and feel. When you see a battle for the first time you will be amazed at all of the explosions, gunfire, and many other things going on the screen at one time.

The sound for this game completes the look and feel of the entire game. The desperation that the forces are being put under comes through loud and clear as they try to snuff out their enemies. The sound effects are equally great, from the giant explosions that you will hear to all of the laser fire being shot during the course of the game. You will pulled right into the intense action of the game and it feels really good.

Earth 2160 is shaping up to be an excellent real-time strategy game. The game has some of the best graphics that I have ever seen for a game of this nature and that is saying something. Earth 2160 is blast to play and highly addictive. I can not wait to get the full game installed on to my PC, because this is one RTS game that no gamer should be with out.
