E3 2002

In the mid-21st century, the planet fell into ruin as street gangs grew into terror patrols, controlling neighborhoods and sometimes entire cities. Desperate to reclaim power, the U.S. government develops a highly advanced combat training simulator.

Gore: Ultimate Soldier is a three-dimensional, first-person shooter game from Dreamcatcher that immerses players into the fast-paced world where it is kill or be killed.

Dreamcatcher unveiled this PC program at E3 2002 in Los Angeles, and despite the proliferation of FPS games this year, this was a title that was drawing a fair amount of attention.

With a name like Gore, one would suppose that this game will be bloody – and one would be right. This game will come with a rating of Mature due to the blood and gore and violence.

The general scenario is one of the UMC waging a running battle with the enemy, which is known as MOB. There are 18 missions in the single player game, and multiplayer action offers the standard array of gaming options, such as capture the flag, deathmatch and team deathmatch.

What will likely set Gore apart are the terrific environments. Not only are they very well rendered, but interactive. If you can see it, you can shoot it. For example, you are in a hot gun battle with your enemy, and his health is getting low. At the moment, he is making for a health pack to boost his rating. Carefully you take aim and just before he reaches it, you shoot the health pack. It becomes an explosive weapon added to your arsenal.

There are 10 character classes in this game, and choosing your avatar is important. Characters have stamina ratings, and if you are carrying too much, you can deplete your stamina, making you an immobile target.

The game features an advanced AI and the AMP 3D engine provides fast-scene rendering and animation. This is a game that looks good and plays well.

This is also one of the games that will hit store shelves immediately after E3.
